May 18, 2006 - Wii wees

On this day:
  • I woke up to find that my short 'stay-with-Maggie-until-she-falls-asleep' nap had lasted 7 hours.
  • Bart was in a better mood this morning, considering the Tantrum Terror we witnessed last night.
    The entire street endured over an hour of wailing with some screaming, jumping, and 'Not Fair's thrown in.
    The reason: Homework. Marge delivers the spelling words better than I can.
  • I had KFC for lunch, while mulling over some mobile phone brochures.
  • I visited EB, where the manager gave me the privilege of letting me play with her pre-release Nintendo DS Lite. (Which makes me wonder. Could I innocently write the same thing in November for the <ahem> Wii, without causing a scandal?)
  • Marge phoned me to give me some breaking news... Lisa went to the toilet. And did a wee. ALL BY HERSELF.

Your mission Bart, should you accept it...

** Begin transmission **
<whisper>
It's Mother's Day on Sunday.
I'm meeting Bart after work tonight to go gift shopping for Marge.
I did some recon during lunch and have identified some potential candidates:
  • The Uniden 2355+2 cordless phone pack with answering machine and headset
  • An ipod shuffle or nano
  • A bright pink bathrobe
  • An xbox360
Hopefully Bart will be focused on our mission.
The last time I took him on the field with me, he got distracted by the toy section and almost compromised the entire operation.
This time I'll let him eat first. So that his stomach is in harmony with his mind.
And then we'll strike our target, which funnily enough, is Target.
Homer out.

** End transmission **

while (system is down) {find meaning out of codelessness}

Doh!
Our software development environment has crashed.
It's unlikely that we'll be able to do any programming for the rest of the day.
'We' being an entire floor of code hungry tech-heads with nowhere to channel their complex algorithms.
So far, it's not too bad.
The volume of chatter has gone up a bit.
Clusters of people can be seen congregating in the hallways.
But how soon will it be before such frivilous brain activity becomes boring?
There can only be so much social interaction that a tech-head can take before the desire to cut code overruns all sense of logic.

Oh look. Some people have started singing "Happy Birthday". For their sake, I hope it's genuine.
There's no telling what a tech-head will do to give themselves a sense of purpose.
Some of the most malicious pieces of code are those created out of boredom.
Viruses. Spyware. Windows ME. Tetris.   <shudder>
